Mental Health Community Services

Urgent Care Centers

The mobile services provided by our Crisis Teams are dispatched from Bay Cove’s three Urgent Care Centers (UCCs). These walk-in clinics serve both children and adults in mental health crisis, offering crisis evaluations that do not require the type of medical supports found in a hospital Emergency Department.

While walk-ins are available to anyone in need of services, we always recommend (if possible) calling the UCC prior to arrival, in order to provide information critical to performing a clinical assessment. All numbers are staffed and available anytime, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Community Crisis Stabilization

In addition to our Urgent Care Centers, Bay Cove also operates Community Crisis Stabilization (CCS) programs in Boston and on Cape Cod. The CCS is a voluntary three- to five-day program for adults (18 years of age and older) who are in acute behavioral health crisis, and is considered a diversion from inpatient treatment. The CCS’s goal is to stabilize individuals, strengthen their coping resources and supports, and develop a plan to promote long-term recovery.

The CCS provides a safe and stable environment where an individual can recover from the mental health crisis while receiving emergency medication adjustments and education about behavioral health concerns. Upon discharge, the individual has a comprehensive aftercare plan that spells out upcoming appointments with mental health practitioners, a self-care plan and community resources the individual can draw upon to support his/her long-term recovery.

Respite Programs

Respite programs are short-term treatment programs, intended to provide a period of support and stability to people going through transitions. Services offered at the respite program may include some combination of the following: medication support; peer-to-peer support; care coordination and referrals to psychiatric and addiction services, outpatient treatment, health care, social services, and other treatment providers.

Our programs are designed to work with persons served to identify resources and actions that need to be taken in order to help them return to participating in community-based mental health services, or to help bridge a change in a person's living situation or life circumstances. We pride ourselves on providing a caring, compassionate service, with the aim of facilitating emotional growth during a time of uncertainty.

    Recovery Learning Center

Bay Cove’s Peer Support Network (PSN) is a peer-led program that focuses on recovery and wellness, and offers goal-oriented services led by persons with a lived experience of psychiatric illness and/or cognitive impairment.

Our Recovery Learning Center is open to the public, and there are no prerequisites to take part in our services aside from self-identifying as having mental health issues and/or cognitive impairments. The program is all-inclusive, and encourages individuals from all backgrounds and life experiences to come to share their perspective on recovery. We feel strongly that diversity among our active participants will benefit our program, enrich the groups therein, and bring differing opinions to the table, which will make for more stimulating interaction.

For some clients, it’s unlikely that they’ll use existing support systems without Bay Cove’s help. We have one individual who has moved into a new apartment. He was sent to us from the courts, but when he got here we told him, ‘You are an individual.’ We still follow up with him and he calls and gives me updates. If Bay Cove was not able to support him he would be in the legal system right now.
